FAQs

MARUSIA KEFIR is a natural probiotic beverage made by fermenting milk with a symbiotic culture of live bacteria and yeasts. It contains no added sugar, preservatives, thickeners, acidulants, or hidden ingredients. This 100% natural , clean-label product provides a high diversity of beneficial microorganisms that reach the gut alive and active, helping to balance and regenerate the gut microbiota.

It is produced under strict quality controls and refrigeration, ensuring that the probiotic cultures retain their vitality until consumption.

1. What are the ingredients in MARUSIA KEFIR?

We use only the highest quality natural ingredients .
Our kefir is made with milk and kefir cultures (live probiotic bacteria and yeasts).
In the case of the natural kefir variety, it contains only milk and lactic cultures , maintaining the purity and quality standard that characterizes MARUSIA.
It contains no preservatives, thickeners, or hidden ingredients.

2. Does MARUSIA KEFIR contain added sugar?

We do not use added sugar in any of our products.
In terms of flavors , we use only natural sweeteners in minimal quantities to provide a sweet touch without compromising the quality or the healthy profile of the kefir.
In the natural variety , the product is not sweetened , preserving its original flavor derived from the fermentation of milk.

3. Why can the texture be more liquid or thicker?

The texture varies naturally depending on fermentation, climate, and season. We don't use thickeners or stabilizers, so it's normal for certain batches to be more liquid or creamier.

4. Why does my kefir look separated, with liquid on top?

Whey separation is a natural process in kefir, resulting from lactic acid fermentation.

In this process, the bacteria consume the lactose and transform it into lactic acid, making the product 99% lactose-free .

During fermentation, the solids settle and the whey (clear liquid on top) separates. This is a sign that fermentation has occurred correctly.

Kefir whey is rich in proteins such as α-lactalbumin (30%) and β-lactoglobulin , as well as globulins, proteases, peptones, vitamins, minerals and low fat content.

Before consuming, shake the bottle well to integrate the whey with the rest of the product.

5. How much and how should I take kefir?

The recommended amount is 250 ml to 350 ml per day , preferably on an empty stomach or 30 minutes before or after your last meal .
If this is your first time consuming it, start with approximately 100 ml to allow your body to get used to the probiotics and gradually increase the amount.
You can take it in the morning on an empty stomach and, if you wish, at night 30 minutes after dinner .

6. I am lactose intolerant, can I take it?

Yes. Kefir is practically lactose-free because the probiotic bacteria consume it and convert it into lactic acid, which is easily digestible.

In addition, it contains microorganisms that produce lactase , the enzyme that helps break down lactose and facilitates its digestion.
In cases of intolerance, it is recommended to start with one shot (approx. 50 ml) per day and gradually increase to assess tolerance.

7. Can I drink kefir if I have colitis, gastritis, or intestinal problems?

In most cases, kefir helps to balance the microbiota and improve digestive health.
However, if a diagnosed medical condition exists, it is recommended to consult with a healthcare professional beforehand.

8. Does MARUSIA KEFIR contain alcohol?

During the natural fermentation of kefir, a minimal amount of alcohol is produced (generally less than 1%), which is normal and safe for most people.

9. Why does it sometimes have more or fewer creamy "lumps"?

The lumps are a natural result of fermentation and contain a high concentration of probiotics.
The presence or absence of lumps does not affect the quality or benefits of the product.

10. How should kefir be stored?

Always refrigerated between 1°C and 4°C . Do not leave at room temperature, as fermentation will continue and may alter flavor, texture, and acidity.

11. How long does kefir last?

We recommend consuming it before the expiry date indicated on the bottle .
Our batches are produced taking that date into account to guarantee the freshness and viability of the probiotics.

Once opened, it is suggested to consume it within 7 to 15 days to enjoy it at its best quality, always maintaining hygiene guidelines:

  • Always keep refrigerated between 1°C and 4°C.

  • Keep the container tightly closed .

  • Store it in a clean container inside the refrigerator.

12. Can kefir be frozen?

Yes, kefir can be frozen and used to prepare recipes such as popsicles or ice cream .
When frozen, probiotic cultures enter a resting state ("go to sleep"), so they are not damaged and remain alive; their growth is simply slowed or stopped while frozen.

However, it is important to note that freezing can affect the texture of kefir, so that when thawed it may feel different from the original.

13. Why can the flavor vary between batches?

It is a handcrafted and living product, so flavor, aroma and texture may vary slightly depending on the milk, temperature and fermentation time.

14. What are the benefits of consuming kefir?

  • It balances and regenerates the intestinal microbiota.

  • It improves digestion and helps in cases of constipation or diarrhea.

  • It helps to strengthen the immune system.

  • It can improve nutrient absorption.

  • It promotes bone and skin health.

15. Can I consume kefir during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Yes, kefir can be very beneficial during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
It helps to maintain a balanced gut microbiota in the mother , which can be transferred to the baby in the case of a natural (vaginal) birth , contributing to better bacterial colonization from birth.

Furthermore, there are studies that indicate that certain probiotics present in kefir can be transferred to the baby through breast milk , supporting their digestive and immune system.

Kefir can also help relieve some common pregnancy symptoms , such as nausea, dizziness, and slow digestion, thanks to its supply of probiotics and nutrients.

Even so, it is always recommended to consult with the treating physician before incorporating it regularly, to ensure that it is suitable for each particular case.

16. Can children drink kefir?

Yes, children can drink kefir once they are consuming whole milk .
The maximum recommended amount is 200 ml per day , always starting gradually to allow your digestive system to adapt.

It is recommended to consult with the pediatrician before incorporating it regularly, especially in young children or those with specific medical conditions.

Kefir can offer multiple benefits for children, including:

  • Strengthen the immune system .

  • Promote healthy digestion.

  • To help maintain a balanced gut microbiota.

  • Support the absorption of essential nutrients.

17. Why is there sometimes pressure or gas in the bottle?

Kefir is a live product that can continue to release natural gas through fermentation.
It is normal and safe; it is recommended to open the bottle slowly to avoid spills.

18. What should I do if I notice something strange in my kefir?

If you detect any unusual smell, taste, or appearance (different from the normal product), do not consume it and contact sales@marusia.life with photos, batch number, and expiration date so we can follow up.
